The Uganda Police Force has intensified security deployments across Kampala ahead of the presidential swearing-in ceremony, assuring the public that the heightened presence is meant to guarantee safety and order during the national event.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the increased deployment should not cause alarm, emphasizing that authorities are taking precautionary measures due to the high-profile nature of the ceremony and the expected influx of dignitaries and guests.
According to police, the security operation includes traffic officers, general duty personnel, counter-terrorism units, and other specialized teams deployed across key locations to ensure the event proceeds without disruption.
Authorities said there is currently no known security threat, but urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and comply with traffic directives that will be enforced around the ceremony venues.
Several roads around the swearing-in grounds are expected to face heavy restrictions, particularly Upper Kololo Terrace, Wampewo Avenue, and Elgon Terrace.
“Elgon Terrace will mainly be used by VVIPs and invited guests with access stickers, while Wampewo Avenue will facilitate pedestrians, service providers, and attendees accessing the venue on foot,” Kituuma said.
Security checkpoints and controlled access points will also be established in surrounding areas as part of broader measures to manage crowds and enhance public safety.
Police further cautioned against reckless celebrations during the public holiday, particularly drunk driving, warning that traffic enforcement will be intensified across the city.
The force also encouraged citizens without official invitations to follow the ceremony live on television rather than crowd restricted areas.
